Future high speed access networks offer the§opportunity to implement high quality video§conferencing systems. Based on the RoCS demo network§at the Carinthia Tech Institute in Klagenfurt,§Austria, two different solutions for video§conferencing are analyzed. On the one hand, the§assets and drawbacks of using the widely accepted§Video for Windows standard are discussed, and on the§other hand, the usage of the iPORT software§development kit from Pleora Technologies is covered§in this book. Furthermore, as video quality in such§systems strongly depends on hardware, an evaluation§of frame grabbers and cameras along with the§compatible software leads to a system recommendation§for a state-of-the-art optical demo-network.
