The hostilities that took place from 12 July §to 14 August 2006 between Israel and Hezbollah §had a devastating impact on the Lebanese §environment. The oil spill following the §attacks on the Jiyeh power plant has led to the §worst environmental crisis in Lebanon's history. §Fifteen years after the deliberate environmental §degradations committed by Saddam Hussein during the §1991 Gulf War, direct attacks on the environment §still remain part of military strategy.
