Traditional health care practices and contemporary practices (western nursing, western medicine) operate in an integrated fashion. The practices of traditional caring culture and western nursing relate to each other. The practices of western nursing and the traditional caring culture advocate for patients. In reading the findings of this book, the systems appeared to operate in parallel. Findings suggest that the policy of forced integration is not working, i.e., providers (traditional and contemporary) practice in parallel, often with ensuing tensions. In contrast, the patients and their family members move freely and with relative ease between the two healing/treatment systems. This is an important finding that challenges the government's policy.
