C., Interspersed With Notices of Several of the Principal Personages Who Distinguished Themselves in the Service of the Native Powers in India This impression may account for the some what daring hope he must have entertained of being able, single-handed, to accomplish what both Sinden and Bhounslah could not effect together, and not only to withstand, but to defeat the power which had prostrated them in a single campaign. But he did not despise assistance. On the con trary, he sought it, on grounds Of mutual interest, from the Rajepoots, the Jhats, the Rohillas, and the Sikhs; and, though last not least, from Ameer Khan, the Pindarree chief, who, indeed, may be regarded as one of his own dependants. He even attempted to persuade Sindea to renew the strug gle, and though fruitlessly at the time, either Sindee or his ministers appear to have left the matter open so far as to be able to act as circum stances should determine, though they commu nicated the overture to the British authorities at the time.
