Martin Sherman is an American screenwriter and playwright known for dramatizing outsiders--gay, female, foreign, disabled, different in religion, class or color--in their struggle to survive. Based largely on primary sources, including interviews with his friends and colleagues, this text explores Sherman's body of work and the critical debates surrounding it. His internationally acclaimed work is examined, as well as unpublished and unproduced scripts.
