This lively study on the dramatic arts, Servir – la vocation de l'acteur, presented in the form of a compilation of interviews between Michel Bouquet, an actor at the height of his talent – who shares an illuminating perspective on our era and his own journey – and actor and director Gabriel Dufay, who provides a youthful counterpoint as he ponders the future of the theatre. This book extensively explores the essence and mysteries of acting, while placing an unprecedented spotlight on Michel Bouquet, an essential witness, who confides anecdotes about his life and career, as well as on the moral and artistic values which enabled his vocation to flourish.Gabriel Dufay is an actor and director. As an artistic director of Compagnie Incandescence, he staged Thomas Bernhard's Simplement compliqué, as well as Nathalie Sarraute's play, Le Silence et Le Mensonge at CNSAD (Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique) In 2009, he directed Roland Schimmelpfennig's Push Up at Théâtre Vidy-Lausanne, and in 2013, Ylajali, a previously unpublished play by Jon Fosse. He also wrote the afterword for La leçon de comédie par Michel Bouquet. Entretiens avec Jean-Jacques Vincensini (Klincksieck/Archimbaud 2010). Lastly, he is the author of two works published by Les Belles Lettres, Paradoxe sur le comédien, l'acteur et le paradoxe. Entretiens avec Denis Podalydès (2012) and Hors-jeu, des masques à abattre (2014).
