Opis

In this book, a high fidelity ball bearing andsqueeze film damper (SFD) model including thermaleffects is developed for an energy storage flywheelsystem with active magnetic bearings (AMBs). A highfidelity nonlinear ball bearing employs the Hertziancontact load-deflection model between ball andraces, and predicts ball contact load and stressduring rotor drop. Thermal growths and expansions ofbearing components are estimated and applied to theball bearing dynamics. A SFD model, based on FEM,determines oil film pressure distribution,calculates viscous damping force correcting oil filmcavitation and predicts power loss due to viscousdissipation in oil film. Using the modelcapabilities, a variety of simulations for theenergy storage flywheel system are conducted toinvestigate the effects of auxiliary bearing designparameters on the dynamic responses of flywheelrotor drop. Auxiliary bearing design guides toprovide safe landing of rotor and to prevent highspeed backward whirl are presented based onperformance indices from the simulationresults.
