This book outlines the performance and management of mangrove forests in the changing climatic scenario of the Asia-Pacific region, drawing examples and lessons from the national and community-driven mangrove conservation programs from the relevant countries. Mangroves play an important role in adapting to climate change, achieving food security, improving household incomes, and providing a plethora of ecosystem services that are fundamental to human survival in coastal areas. Yet these ecosystems are exceptionally prone to extinction owing to increased human intervention and changes in environmental boundary conditions. The Asia-Pacific region hosts approximately half of the mangroves in the world. The mangroves in that region, however, continue to disappear faster than in any other region, which emphasizes the need for mangrove conservation as a regional priority, especially under the emerging consequences of climate change. This book explores the learning from past and present conservational initiatives, its potential in enhancing climate resilience, and major drawbacks that hinder effective conservation in a regional perspective. Narrative cases present experiences from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, and Fiji.
