Societies from the Late Bronze Age through the New Testament show identifications or equations of deities of different cultures (for example, in lists of deities), and deities of various cultures acting together (e.g., as divine guarantors of international treaties). There are several cases of "God in Translation" in the Hebrew Bible despite its apparent monotheistic purpose.
