Although the new millennium requires leaders to engagefollowers actively in the change process, many leaders seemreluctant to embrace modern methods of transforming leadershipdespite evidence of their effectiveness. To facilitate thetransition to more collaborative forms of leadership, this studyused meta-analysis, a research method useful for combining thequantitative findings of a number of primary research studies toproduce a more powerful statistical measure, to examine the impactof leaders who use modern styles of leadership, characterized asvisionary, charismatic, or transformational, to motivate theirfollowers to achieve higher levels of performance and jobsatisfaction. The findings support the effectiveness oftransforming leadership in comparison to more traditionalleadership styles.
