Folge der HYPERION-Serie Das romantische Klavierkonzert befinden wir uns mit zwei Werken von Hans Pfitzner (1869-1849) und Walter Braunfels (1882-1954) in der Abenddämmerung der deutschen Romantik. Reiht sich Pfitzners eindrucksvolles Klavierkonzert op.31 (1922) in seiner sinfonischen Anlage deutlich in die Tradition der Klavierkonzerte Brahms' ein, so vermeidet das fünfsätzige Tag- und Nachtstücke op.44 (1933/34) auch durch den Titel die Verbindung zum klassischen Konzert. Markus Becker und das Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin unter Constantin Trinks machen deutlich, dass es sich hier nicht nur um kuriose Raritäten, sondern um echte Entdeckungen handelt.
