The role of learners in the process of learning is undeniable. Students with positive beliefs about foreign language learning (EFL) tend to have stronger motivation, hold favorable attitude, use more strategies, are less anxious, and have better language achievement. It is important to be aware of the factors that affect the students' tendency to learn. Understanding students' cognition about language learning is central to recognizing learner strategies and designing appropriate language pedagogy. The work presented in this article reports on a study of beliefs held by EAP students at Azad University of Najaf Abad.
