Blurb There is wide recognition that NGOs have significant role to play in assisting the rural poor in breaking out of their condition of poverty. International development policy since the nineties has given a high priority to co-operation with NGOs as important new participants in the development sector. NGOs are considered to have comparative advantage in implementing projects because they are closer to the beneficiaries, work more cost effectively and use people centered approaches to development. The mission of UCA-FETAS project is to support farmers through agricultural advisory services, provision of inputs, on farm demonstrations and agricultural market linkages. The NGOs' contribution to economic empowerment in terms of nature of services, service delivery and impact on participating communities remain a subject of contention. It was the intention of this study to assess the impact of NGO activities towards the economic empowerment of grass root communities in Bushenyi District.
