S'appuyant sur une analyse anthropologique des différences entre amour et amitié, Jean-Marie Gueullette montre comment il est possible d'accorder une place importante à l'amitié dans la vie chrétienne. Lorsque le Christ est reconnu comme le Tiers entre les amis, l'amitié devient une communion ouverte sur la présence de l'autre, le pauvre, le Christ, sans pour autant tomber dans l'illusion vague d'une amitié pour tous. Il s'agit également de découvrir les racines théologiques d'un mode de relation au Christ, moins connu, mais tout aussi fécond, que la mystique nuptiale. Une telle approche de l'amitié permet de réhabiliter une expérience humaine riche et cependant discrète et pudique. Elle donne également à réfléchir sur les implications anthropologiques et théologiques des discours tenus sur l'amitié parmi les chrétiens : la grâce perfectionne-t-elle l'amitié au point d'en faire une épiphanie de l'amitié de Dieu pour nous ? le Christ a-t-il été un ami pour Lazare et pour le disciple bien aimé afin de donner un exemple moral ? L'évocation de l'amitié dans le Nouveau Testament ne sert-elle pas plutôt à révéler la proximité de Dieu avec les hommes ? -- Referring to an anthropological analysis of the differences between love and friendship, Jean-Marie Gueullette demonstrates how it is possible to accord an important place to friendship in Christian life. When Christ is recognised as a Third party between friends, friendship becomes a communion, open to the presence of the other, to the poor, to the Christ, without slipping into a vague illusion of all-round friendship. It is also a question of rediscovering the theological roots of a means of relating to Christ, a less well-known one than nuptial mysticism, but just as fruitful. Such an approach to friendship allows us to rehabilitate a rich human experience which is nevertheless discrete and unassuming. It also provides food for thought on the anthropological and theological implications of the Christian discourse on friendship: does grace bring friendship to such a peak of perfection as to create an epiphany of God's friendship for us? Was Christ a friend to Lazarus and 'the disciple Jesus loved', in order to provide a moral example? Aren't the references to friendship in the New Testament perhaps a way of revealing God's proximity to man?
