Within maternity care midwives and consultantobstetricians are frequently required to collaboratetogether in an attempt to provide optimal care forwomen and their babies. In this way they are engagingin interprofessional collaboration, a much debatedand increasingly popular policy agenda within healthcare. However, despite the growing support forinterprofessional collaboration there is a limitedunderstanding of how patient experiences areinfluenced by interprofessional working. This bookwill shed light on this issue using insights gainedfrom midwifery clients. The stories of the womensuggest that interprofessional consultation iscomplex with instances of subjugation and resistanceoccurring simultaneously as differing professionalideologies collide. The experience of midwiferyclients during interprofessional consultation willbe relevant for all those involved in maternitycare, and for academics and professionals who areconsidering ways in which policy and practice canstrengthen interprofessional working.
