Building on their insightful work on India's 1999 and 2004 parliamentary elections, scholars Ramashray Roy and Paul Wallace are back with an edited volume that provides a close look at the 15th national elections in 2009 in India. The book is divided into two parts-first is thematic, and discusses the general framework within which Indian electoral politics is situated, while the second is state-based and discusses the different party systems. India's 2009 Elections shows how the 15th national election was a turning point in Indian history. It clearly shows that India's electorate emphasized political stability and governance coherence in 2009, leading the Congress Party to a victory just 10 seats short of a majority. The public outcome, according to the editors, signified a demand for integrity, continuity and competence in the 2009 campaign, values which were considered almost obsolete in today's political scenario. The book does not deal with rigid and dogmatic ideological formations, and instead is about the rich panorama of transitory phenomena that makes India a rich and vibrant democracy.
