Was ist Natur? Was ist Geist, was Kultur? Schon in diesen grundlegenden Konzepten der Wissensorganisation sind Gender, Ethnizität und Klasse wirksam, wurden doch Natur und Materie im abendländischen Denken immer wieder sowohl mit "Weiblichkeit" als auch mit dem Außerhalb der Zivilisation in Verbindung gebracht. Band 8 des Jahrbuchs Musik und Gender, herausgegeben von Cornelia Bartsch und Britta Sweers, geht den disziplinären Grenzen nach, die eine europäische Musikgeschichte zugleich mit ihren musikalischen Kolonien konstituiert haben. Die acht Studien befassen sich mit der Produktion dieser Grenzen entlang der genannten Differenzkategorien und fragen nach den Folgen für die inneren und äußeren Landkarten des musikwissenschaftlichen Wissens. Zugleich wenden sie sich Phänomenen auf der Grenze zu: im Zwischenbereich der musikwissenschaftlichen Disziplinen, an topographischen Grenzen, an Wahrnehmungsgrenzen sowie an der Grenze zwischen wissenschaftlicher Theoriebildung und bildungspolitischer Praxis. What is Nature? What is mind, what is culture? Even in these fundamental concepts of the organisation of knowledge, gender, ethnicity and class already play a role, although nature and matter in western thought have always been associated with "femininity" and with what is outside civilisation. Volume 8 of the Music and Gender Yearbook, edited by Cornelia Bartsch and Britta Sweers, traces the disciplinary borders which have constituted a European history of music and its musical colonies. The eight studies examine the production of these borders according to named categories of differentiation and explore the consequences for internal and external maps of musicological disciplines. At the same time they look at the phenomena on the margins: in the spaces between musical disciplines, on topographical borders, on the borders of perception and on the border between academic theorising and the politics of educational practice.
