Injuries to people living and working on farms in NewSouth Wales continue to be a significant burden onthe health and compensation systems, agriculturalindustries and farming families.Strategies to reduce injuries suffered by people onfarms rely on accurate information. Unfortunately inAustralia there is no one dataset available todescribe the circumstances and size of this burden.Hence, a number of different data sources arerequired. To date, there has been very littlecritical examination of what value each of thesedatasets provides to describing farm injuries. This book provides insight into the magnitude ofinjuries occurring to people on farms or duringagricultural production in NSW using data collectedfrom an Emergency Department, Hospital Separations,Workers Compensation Claims, and Deaths data. Itprovides a critical examination of the utility of thedata and classification systems used for thesurveillance of farm injuries in NSW and definespriority areas where farm injury preventioninitiatives are required. Finally it provides anevaluation of a rebate scheme to retrofit RolloverProtective Structure (ROPS) on farm tractors in NSW.
