The main focus of this monograph is the dynamic relationships between Japan and her colonies during the years _____-1945, and the economic development of each colony. At present, East Asia is a major economic center of the world. It is necessary to examine not only both sides of the "exploitation or development under colonization" paradigm but also the prewar factors that spurred East Asian economic growth in the postwar decades. A noteworthy characteristic of the Japanese empire was the close economic and geographic relations between Japan and her colonies.
