Given current rates of globalization and migration, anincreasing number of people are living between two cultures. Howare bicultural people influenced by the demands of two, oftendivergent cultural systems? This work considers the influence ofbiculturalism on the self-concept organization and psychologicaladjustment of individuals. The organization of self-beliefs andseveral indices of psychological adjustment are assessed forCanadians of South Asian origin. This bicultural sample iscontrasted to two monocultural samples--Canadians of Europeanorigin and South Asians residing in Delhi, India. The resultsprovide insight into the challenges faced by those living betweentwo cultures and will assist practitioners who work with migrantsconfronted by conflicting cultural demands.
