Book synopsis

A friend is not a fellow who is taken in by sham; a friend is one who knows our faults and doesn't give a damn. (Author Unknown) A true story of friendship in postwar WWII in upstate NY. The story follows the lives of four young girls as they progress from an immigrant neighborhood into generic American life. Their basic faith and respect for one another despite their cultural differences see them through the years as they grow, marry and start their own families. Only when one passes away is it apparent that they have succumbed to corresponding via a mass media and have omitted the personal touch which is what made them so strong when they were younger. Each person has contributed and is a part of another's life. All those parts are facets in the gem that shines out showing the worth of that person's life and their contribution to the world.
