The book contributes to understanding the mechanics of the Himalayan earthquake cycle. The motivation for active fault mapping of the Kumaun Sub Himalaya (it includes Garhwal and Kumaun regions of Uttarakhand) is to gain insight to the level of seismic hazard imposed by large earthquakes along the Himalayan arc.
