A disturbed homocysteine metabolism can be an underlying factorfor pregnancy complications and fetal malformations, cardiovasculardisease, dementia, psychiatric and neurologic disorders and possiblycarcinogenesis. A disturbed homocysteine metabolism can in most cases be normalisedby treatment with folate and/or vitamines B12 and B6.
